When was the last time you showed your partner a bit of extra love and appreciation?

And no, doing their laundry doesn’t count (well it does, but we reckon you can take it up a notch, don’t ya think?)

It’s time to flip the script on romance. Think less chocolates and roses and more fun, laughs and unexpected adventures.

We're not talking about over-the-top, Hollywood-style romance. Nope, just some good old-fashioned, make-'em-smile kind of stuff.

1. Leave a hidden love note

Ok so this one might be kinda Hollywood romance-esque, but a cheeky little love note is the perfect way to show your partner some appreciation. It doesn’t have to be a huge love letter, but just a little “Hey, I love you” or “You’ve got a cute tush” is enough to make them smile. Leave it under their pillow, taped to the fridge, written on the bathroom mirror … endless places to leave a hidden love note.

2. Book an Unyoked getaway

Surprise your fave human and book a weekend at an Unyoked cabin (you've seen their cabins, right? Absolute heaven). It's the perfect escape from the daily grind, surrounded by nature and, most importantly, each other. Naw.

3. DIY spa day

Spoiling your partner doesn’t have to cost a lot. Do they love to be pampered? Well, why not set up a spa day at home? Light some scented candles, put on some chill tunes, and treat each other to facials or a relaxing bath. It's the spa experience, but without the hefty bill. We love to see it.

4. Flashback date

Recreate your first date but with a twist. Maybe this time, you exaggerate everything. Overdress, order the fanciest items on the menu (or the exact opposite), and laugh about how far you've come since the very first time you locked eyes on each other.

5. Mystery road trip

Plan a secret adventure for your partner, but turn it into a guessing game. Drop outrageous hints about exotic destinations or wild activities. Will you end up at a llama farm, a haunted house, or just a lovely beach? The suspense (and the ridiculous guesses) will keep you giggling together for hours.

6. Do a hobby swap

Spend the day learning each other’s hobbies. Are they into painting? Try your hand at creating a masterpiece (abstract blobs totally count). Maybe they love cooking? Whip up a dish together (edible or not, it's the effort that counts). The goal isn’t to become an expert but rather to show your partner you’re interested in the things they are. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll discover a new hobby you both love.

7. Stargazing expedition

Go stargazing together, but instead of serious contemplation, turn it into a game of inventing the most ridiculous constellations and backstories. “That’s definitely a dancing alien,” or “Look, a constellation that looks like a pizza!” Bring blankets, snacks, and enjoy a night under the stars with your lover. Nothing screams “I love you” like endless hours of laughing together.

And hey, if romance isn't your thing right now, these ideas work just as well for your best mate, your mum, or even your sibling. Show them some love, or heck, treat yourself to some of these.
